The calendar says it’s summertime and the thermometer tells us it’s HOT (in most of the Northern Hemisphere), but does that mean it’s too early to start shopping for the 2012 Christmas season? Well, not according to some people.
In an article on the Detroit CBS site, we find that approximately 13% of Americans have already started their Christmas shopping and a whopping 4% are already finished. WOW.
We often hear people lament that the Christmas season seems to come earlier and earlier each year, but this is still surprising. I guess it shouldn’t be, however. With the economy still in a weak state, it makes sense to spread holiday shopping out over several months rather than try to cram it all in to two or three paychecks. The economy also accounts for a recent rise in the number of stores again offering lay-a-way.
So, what do you think? Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Or is it still way too soon?
