Well, Christmas Day is over. The presents are opened and the TV is already blaring “After Christmas Sale” ads, but is Christmas really over for this year in your house? In our house, the answer is a resounding “No!’ Of course, that should come as no surprise given the fact that we run a Christmas-themed blog, but I’m talking about the actual celebration of the holiday, complete with the tree, decorations and all the rest. How long do you celebrate?
Around our home, our celebration runs well into the first week of January. In fact, we don’t even think about taking the decorations down until after New Years Day. Most of the time, we take it down around the fifth of January. Believe it or not, this was quite common in days-gone-by. A long Christmas holiday is still observed in many areas of the world.
Unfortunately for us in North America, we’ve be accustomed to cramming the entire holiday into December 25. That doesn’t seem right. After all, we Christmas lovers wait all year for this wonderful season so why should we let it go after only one day? Around our house, we’re even instituting a new tradition just to stretch the holiday out a little bit longer. I’ll tell you about that in another post.
So, you know how long we celebrate Christmas, how about you? When do you take down the tree and pack away the decorations? Have you done it already? Let us know.
